Most still Pinot Noir wines are fermented to dryness, meaning they contain less than one gram of sugar per 150ml serving. The answer to "is Pinot Noir a high sugar wine?" is therefore almost always no, contrary to what its fruity profile might suggest.

While most table wines contain very little sugar, a rare Hungarian Tokaji Eszencia can contain exceptionally high levels, sometimes exceeding 800 grams of residual sugar per liter, making it a strong contender for the title of which wine has the highest amount of sugar. The sweetness of a wine is determined by its residual sugar, the amount left over after fermentation.
