In July 2024, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially banned the use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in food products, concluding the additive is no longer considered safe. Once common in citrus-flavored beverages, BVO has been phased out by most major brands over the last decade in favor of safer alternatives. While large companies have already complied, older products or smaller regional brands may still contain this stabilizer until the August 2025 enforcement date.
