Following a series of corporate acquisitions and restructurings in the nutrition industry, the popular active nutrition brand Pure Protein is currently owned by the sports and wellness company 1440 Foods. This ownership structure, however, has deeper roots involving private equity firms and strategic growth initiatives in the health food sector.

As of early 2025, health and wellness company Wellful, backed by private equity firm Kainos Capital, officially acquired Ancient Nutrition from its previous investors, including VMG Partners and Hillhouse Investment. The precise amount of what did Ancient Nutrition sell for remains undisclosed to the public.

As of 2021, the US private equity firm Gryphon Investors became the parent company of Metagenics. This acquisition marked a significant shift in the ownership of the nutritional supplement brand, moving it away from its previous parent, Alticor, which also owns Amway.
