In a large study involving 374 severely malnourished anorexia nervosa inpatients, an overwhelming 92.8% were found to have at least one micronutrient deficiency at hospital admission. These significant nutritional deficits, far beyond simple calorie deprivation, highlight complex health issues requiring specialized medical attention during nutritional rehabilitation.
