According to the Foodbank Hunger Report 2024, an estimated 3.4 million Australian households experienced food insecurity in the past year, with low-income families, single-parent households, and people in regional areas being disproportionately affected.

According to a 2023 report from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), over 2.3 billion people were moderately or severely food insecure. But this crisis does not affect all people equally. Determining which group is most likely to experience food insecurity requires an examination of how economic, social, and systemic factors create heightened vulnerability for certain populations.
