Trace amounts of xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are naturally present in a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, honey, and milk. However, the XOS found in dietary supplements and functional foods are almost always industrially produced by extracting them from lignocellulosic biomass. This dual origin means XOS are both naturally occurring and commercially manufactured products.
